Game Info: Sunday, June 2nd, 2024 at  1:40 p.m. EST (Progressive Field)

Betting Odds: Guardians -1.5 (+130) - Over/Under (8.5)

Pick: Guardians -1.5 (+130)

The Cleveland Guardians and the Washington Nationals will play the third and final game of their three game weekend series here on Sunday afternoon. It’s been all Cleveland throughout the first two games of this series as the Guardians will look to complete the three game sweep with a third consecutive victory here in this one. Meanwhile, Washington will look to salvage some sort of momentum with a victory before heading into the first full week of June.

This feels like a must win game for the Washington Nationals as they attempt to salvage some momentum. They have dropped the opening two games of this series and they are in desperate need of a victory right now. Compared to their performance on Friday night in the opening game of the series, they showed plenty of improvement in game number two, and now they will search for at least one win in this three game weekend series. The Nationals come into the finale of this series with a record of 26-31 through their first 57 games of the season and the National League East division title keeps slipping farther and farther away with each loss.

This game should be a higher scoring contest compared to the five runs we saw on Saturday afternoon, as the pitching matchup doesn’t exactly scream pitchers duel. Jake Irvin will get the ball for Washington and he has a record of 2-5 on the season with a 3.43 Earned Run Average. He will certainly have his hands full with the likes of Josh Naylor, David Fry, and Jose Ramirez in the lineup. Washington has already given up a significant amount of runs throughout the first two games of this series, with Cleveland putting ten across the plate so far. Irvin will be tasked to contain this hot lineup if the Nationals want to get the win.

The Cleveland Guardians have bounced back in a huge way after losing two out of three to the Colorado Rockies. They have managed to win the first two games of this series against the Washington Nationals and they will look to complete the three game series sweep with another victory here on Sunday afternoon at home. Cleveland has the best home record in all of baseball throughout the first couple of months this season. They will look to add another victory to that record with another solid performance here on Sunday. They picked up a close victory in the second game of the series on Saturday by a score of 3-2 and they will look to give themselves a little more breathing room here in game three.

Carlos Carrasco will get the baseball and he will look to maintain Cleveland’s solid run of pitching after only allowing two combined runs in the first two games of the series. However, he has had some struggles throughout the early part of the season, as he comes into this game with a record of 2-4 and an Earned Run Average of 5.16 thus far. That is something he will need to lower otherwise he could find himself in the bullpen or in the minor leagues before the end of the 2024 Major League Baseball season. He will be looking to keep the Nationals cold and post some zeros on the board throughout this game.

Betting trends to consider in this matchup:

- Cleveland is 20-6 at home

- Washington is 16-18 on the road

- Cleveland is 25-13 after a win

I expect Cleveland to complete the sweep and grab a third consecutive victory over Washington here on Sunday afternoon at home. They have been the best team in baseball at Progressive Field this season and I do not see that changing anytime soon. Not only do I look for Cleveland to pick up the victory in the third and final game of the series, but I also look for the Cleveland Guardians to cover the run line against the Washington Nationals as well.
