UConn Huskies (28-8) vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs (31-5)

Game Info: Saturday, March 25, 2022 at 8:50 p.m. EST (T-Mobile Arena)

Betting Odds: UConn (-2) / Over/Under (153.5)

Pick: UConn (-2)

As we head into the final 8 teams in the tournament, we will get an epic battle between two high-power offenses when the UConn Huskies take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs inside the T-Mobile Arena.

UConn was a surefire sleeper team for me to begin March Madness to make some noise and maybe win it all if the cards could fall in their favor. In their first 3 games, they have completely dominated their opponents, winning by 52 points combined (3-0 ATS in that stretch). Star Sophomore guard, Jordan Hawkins continues to shine when the lights are brightest. Last time out, he put in 24 points, going 9-9 from the free-throw line in his path. Although it is a guard game nowadays, I feel as though this game will be decided down in the trenches between Drew Timme and Adama Sanogo. If Sanogo can hold his own against Timme, which he is more than capable of doing, UConn has the perimeter pieces to take down the Bulldogs with ease. Come tipoff on Saturday night, we shall see if the Huskies can continue on their torrid run inside of the tournament as they attempt to punch their ticket to the Final Four.

Gonzaga has flown under the radar heading into this edition of March Madness as they came in only being a 3-seed. In prior years, they have been the favorite to take home the crown, but with less pressure on them this time around, they have benefited from not being in the limelight as much. Gonzaga has not had the luxury that UConn has had of pulling away with sizable victories over the first 3 games. In the Round of 32 and Sweet 16, they only beat TCU and UCLA by a combined 6 points, giving the neutral fan a site to see in both close encounters. Although Julian Strawther hit the big shot to take down the Bruins last game with only a few seconds to spare, Drew Timme led the way, as he always does for the Bulldogs. He was able to put in an astounding 36 points, along with securing 13 rebounds in the nail-biting win. The battle between Sanogo and Timme will be one of the best big-man matchups of the season so far... who is going to be able to come out on top?

Betting trends to consider in this matchup:

- The Huskies are 13-0-1 ATS in non-Conference games

- UConn is 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games

- Gonzaga is 5-11-1 ATS in non-Conference games

This should truly be one of the best games of the tournament with how well-matched these teams are. In saying that though, I am confident in how UConn's big men will be able to stifle Timme enough to force Gonzaga's secondary options into making plays all night long. As we go down the roster, I side with UConn as they have the more well-rounded squad in my eyes. Give me the Huskies to snatch a win by at least a few buckets on Saturday night!
