Pick: Phillies ML (-135)

Wednesday afternoon takes us to the city of brotherly love for the San Francisco Giants and  the Philadelphia Phillies will wrap up a three-game series that could potentially go a long way in determining the outcome of the wild card seeding in the National League. Both of these teams have been playing solid baseball. This season and both of them will be looking to grab some momentum by capping off this series with a victory before heading into the weekend.

The San Francisco Giants have been playing solid baseball throughout the season and they currently occupy one of the three wildcard spots in the National League at the moment. However, this has not been the best week for them so far, as they will be looking to avoid being swept by the Philadelphia Phillies and the third and final game of this series on Wednesday afternoon. They have lost back to back games to Philadelphia and you can argue that they’ve only been competitive and one of them as they were blown out by nine runs in the opening game of the series on Monday night, but only had a one run loss in the second game of the series on Tuesday night.

Now they will be looking to salvage some momentum before heading into the weekend with a victory here in Wednesday’s finale against a red hot Philadelphia Phillies team. San Francisco comes into the finale of this series with a record of 65-61 through their first 126 games of the 2023 Major League Baseball season. They are currently tied for the third and final wildcard spot in the National League but if they continue to play the way that they have been playing, then they will not be tied for that spot much longer. They are currently on a two game losing streak, and they have lost seven out of their last 10 games on the season and they will need to bounce back with a victory here in this game on Wednesday.

The Philadelphia Phillies had a slow start to the season after coming into the year with plenty of expectations following their World Series appearance last year. However, Philadelphia has managed to pick things up as the season is winding down and they now find themselves in a perfect position to make another deep playoff run, as all the guys are playing healthy and consistent baseball coming down the final stretch of the year. Philadelphia has already picked up a pair of victories in this series against the San Francisco Giants and they will be looking to officially sweep the Giants with another victory here on Wednesday afternoon at home.

They have been one of the hottest teams in all of Major League Baseball as of late and they don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. They come into the finale of this series as winners of their last two games on the season and five out of their last 10 on the year as well. They currently occupy the top wildcard spot in the National League as they have built up a four game lead over the second place wildcard team with around 40 or so games left to play this season. Michael Lorenzen will get the baseball for Philadelphia in the finale of this series, and he will be looking to bounce back from his rough start against Washington only two weeks after throwing a no-hitter against that very same Nationals team.

Betting trends to consider in this matchup:

- Philadelphia is 31-19 as a home favorite

- Philadelphia is 40-28 after a win

- San Francisco is 29-31 after a loss

I have to give the edge to the Philadelphia Phillies in this game after their pair of performances against the San Francisco Giants in the opening two games of this series. As I look for Philadelphia to complete the three game sweep of a struggling San Francisco team and further establish their spot at the top of the National League wildcard standings before heading into the final weekend of August.
