Betting Odds: Guardians ML (-130) - Over/Under (8.5)
Pick: Guardians ML (-120)
The San Francisco Giants and the Cleveland Guardians will play the third and final game of a three game series here on Sunday afternoon in Cleveland. Coming into the series finale on Sunday afternoon both teams have managed to pick up a victory and the previous two games and both teams will look to win the series with a second victory here in this one. These are two teams that are having completely different seasons with San Francisco coming into this game with a losing record. Meanwhile, Cleveland has been one of the best teams in baseball throughout the early part of the season. This could be a pivotal turning point in the year for both of these teams, and they will look to build up momentum with a victory here on Sunday.
San Francisco has put up a fight against Cleveland over the previous two days despite coming up short in game number two of the series on Saturday. Now they will look to rebound and win their second game in the last three days and pick up a huge series victory over one of the best teams in baseball at the moment. With only a week or so left before the All-Star break, this is a pivotal time in the season for a San Francisco team that got off to a slow start this year. As they still have the ability to establish themselves as a legitimate contender for one of the three National League wildcard spots heading into the second half of the year.
However, they will need to get things turned around rather quickly heading into the All-Star break and if they can get into the break over .500 it would be a good sign for them coming up the back half of the season. Hayden Birdsong gets the start in this game and he will make his third career major league appearance and search for his second career major league victory in the process. He will need to shut down a solid Cleveland lineup that includes the likes of Steven Kwan, Josh Naylor, and Jose Ramirez so certainly be no easy task for the young rookie here on Sunday afternoon on the road in Cleveland.

Cleveland has been a little up-and-down over the last couple of weeks and they will look to get things on track with a week to go before the All-Star break with a victory here on Sunday at home. They are one of the youngest teams in all of baseball this season and they have arguably overachieved up until this point. As nobody would’ve expected them to be sitting in first place of the American League Central division heading into the All-Star break. Although they are still a week away, it seems very likely they will be in first place when the break arrives, and they will look to maintain that throughout the remainder of the season and make the playoffs in a year where they were supposed to be rebuilding under a new manager.
Carlos Carrasco will start for Cleveland in this game has been shaky at times throughout the year, but he is able to put a solid start together when needed. That is something Cleveland will desperately need on Sunday afternoon as they look to close out the San Francisco Giants with two victories over the weekend at home. Cleveland has built up a respectable lead within the division and they will look to further extend that lead with a second consecutive victory over San Francisco after picking up the win in game two on Saturday. With a victory, Cleveland would win their fifth out of the last six series they’ve played on the season, and it would give them plenty of momentum, heading into the final week before the Midsummer classic.
Betting trends to consider in this matchup:
- Cleveland is 29-11 at home
- Cleveland is 34-17 against teams below .500
- San Francisco is 15-25 against teams above .500
I expect this to be a close and competitive matchup throughout the early innings of this game on Sunday afternoon. However, in the end, I do look for Cleveland to pick up a second consecutive victory over San Francisco to wrap up this series on a positive note at home. As I look for Jose Ramirez and Josh Naylor to be the catalyst behind the success for Cleveland once again here in this game and lead them to a much needed win to open up this home, stand and head into next week on a positive note.
