Game Info: Friday, June 30, 2023 at 7:10 p.m. EST (Citi Field)

Betting Odds: Giants (-120) / Over/Under (9)

Pick: Giants ML (-120)

As we make our way into the weekend, let's head into Citi Field for the beginning of a three-game set between the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets.

After taking game one versus the Toronto Blue Jays through a shutout, the Giants bats did not show up in games two and three, scoring a combined two runs in the last eighteen innings. Looking at their starting pitching though, they have faired well all season long. On the mound for the Giants to open the series in New York will be veteran right-hander, Alex Cobb. Over his career, he has been a solid mainstay in whatever rotation he has been a part of. Nonetheless, right now he is pitching about as good as he has pitched in the last ten seasons or so, as he boasts a stellar 3.09 ERA. Whether the Giants' bats continue to slump or not remains to be seen... but whichever outcome occurs, they will surely need Cobb to be at his best in front of a packed-out Citi Field on Friday night. Can Cobb send San Francisco back on the right track as they hope to stay within reach of the top of the NL West as we near the mid-point of the season?

New York continues to be an utter disappointment as the games go by as they now sit with a 36-45 record, good for fourth in the NL East (17.5 games back of the leading Atlanta Braves). It does not seem to matter who the Mets throw out there at this moment, as it always turns bad at the end of the day. After splitting the opening two games with the Milwaukee Brewers, the Mets failed to muster together any consecutive hits for the next two games, losing the series 3-1. Looking at their lineup, there are several players that are underperforming, but the two players that will have the biggest role to play in whether they are able to turn their season around or not are Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso. It does not matter how many home runs they are going to combine for in this campaign... if they both bat under .230 for the year, the Mets will be going home earlier than most expected them to at the beginning of the regular season a few months ago.

Betting trends to consider for this matchup:

- San Francisco is 35-23 in league games

- The Giants are 22-15 on the road

- The Mets are 9-18 as the underdog

Although the Giants looked pretty apathetic in their last two games in Toronto, I am going to side with them to get back into the swing of things on Friday, as I expect them to jump all over Carlos Carrasco in order to get to New York's subpar bullpen early. Additionally, Cobb will give us enough innings before he gives it over to the Giants' bullpen, which has several arms that have pitched well in 2023. Give me San Fran to register the win on Friday night, as the Mets continue to struggle to get in a groove!
