Pick: Utah State (-1)

Let's take a trip out west to take a look at a crucial Mountain West matchup between the San Diego State Aztecs and the Utah State Aggies inside of Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Wednesday night.

It feels as though the Aztecs are a routine top-25 team every single year. Head Coach Brian Dutcher has done an excellent job over the past 5 seasons in keeping this programs standards high, reaching the NCAA tournament in 3/5 of those years. They currently sit atop the Mountain West with a 18-5 record (9-2 in Conference play), and will look to give themselves some room atop the standings with a win on the road here. Leading scorer, Matt Bradley (G), was expected to take another leap this year in his final season in scarlet and black colors, but he has disappointed up until now. Although he is leading the team in scoring with 12.8 PPG, coming off of averaging 16.9 PPG last season, many expected him to creep up closer to the 20 mark this year, including me. If they are to make some noise come March Madness time, he will surely need to pick his game up towards the end of the season.

After a lackluster 18-16 record in Ryan Odom's first year at the helm last season, the Aggies have greatly adjusted to his coaching style with more wins already this season with several games to go. They bring in one of the best offenses in the country. They rank 10th in offensive efficiency in the country, and have multiple scorers that are capable of controlling a game at any point. With 5 players averaging over 10 PPG, they are able to spread the ball around and attack from all three phases of the game. Furthermore, they have excelled at home, with an 11-1 record SU in home games (7-4 ATS). If star Junior guard Steven Ashworth is able to get the crowd going early like he did last time out on the road against Colorado State, in which he put in an impressive 26 points, Utah State will like their chances of tying the Aztecs at the top of the Mountain West standings.

A few betting trends to consider in this matchup:

- San Diego State is 1-5-1 ATS when they are playing off of 4+ days of rest

- The Aggies are 14-6 ATS as the favorite

- The Aztecs are 1-4 ATS when they have the rest advantage

- The over has hit in 14 out of 17 games that the Aggies have played in after a win

Utah State has been one of the best teams this year ATS in the country, with a 16-7 ATS record. Even though they can struggle at times defensively, with the home crowd in their favor, in one of their biggest games of the year so far, I love for them to pull this one out at home. Utah State has a few more reliable options on offense at their disposal than the Aztecs do, and it will show late in the game in this one. Give me the Aggies to win by at least a bucket.
