Thursday night brings us an NL clash between two teams with high hopes for the season when the Milwaukee Brewers head out west to open up a 4-game stand with the San Diego Padres.

Milwaukee heads into this one with a 8-4 record on the year, having lost the last series 2-1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Brewers were able to make a key addition to their lineup in the offseason, acquiring William Contreras from the Atlanta Braves to become their new stopper behind the backstop. So far this year, he has lived up to the hype, hitting .364 in the meat of the Brewers lineup. Other than the addition of Contreras, they boast the same pieces as they put out on the field last season. If they are able to get production from Yelich and Adames at the top of the lineup, they will surely be in the thick of things by the end of the regular season in contention to win the NL Central. Nevertheless, gaining some confidence early on in the season will play a huge role on if they are able to stay afloat throughout the long year with a below-par lineup. We shall see if they can continue on their good run to begin the campaign.

San Diego was only able to take one from the Mets in their last series before heading home. That has them coming into this lengthy series with a 7-6 record, good for second in the NL West. In the offseason, the Padres went out and made noise once again around the league by shelling out over 600$ million to sign Manny Machado to another extension and to bring Xander Bogaerts in from the Boston Red Sox in free agency. Although Fernando Tatis Jr. will be out for the majority of the regular season, the likes of Machado, Bogaerts, Jake Cronenworth, and Juan Soto will give them more than enough bats in the middle of the lineup to keep them around until their superstar shortstop is able to come back. On Thursday night, they will throw Nick Martinez on the mound in hopes to open the home stand out on a good note. He has struggled mightily in his first two starts to begin the year, but will surely turn it around soon to return to his solid form of last year.

Betting trends to consider in this matchup:

- The Brewers are 4-1 in non-Division games

- The over is 4-2 in Padres home games

- The over is 3-2 in Brewers non-Division games

The Brewers may not pop off the page with superstar talent all around the diamond, but they always seem to be in the thick of things by the end of the year. On the other hand, it seems as though the Padres have made a fantasy lineup with the acquisitions that they have been able to make over the past few years. Nonetheless, I love the way the Brewers are playing as of late, and I expect them to head into San Diego and steal the first one to begin the series.
