Betting Odds: EVEN / Over/Under (9)

Pick: Royals ML (-110)

Tonight we will take a break from the NBA Playoffs and focus our attention on the MLB, where the Washington Nationals will be playing the Kansas City Royals in Kauffman Stadium.

Washington's front office did not go into this season expecting much from their squad in a jam-packed NL East that features the Braves, Mets, and Phillies; all teams who are in win-now mode. They have certainly not looked as bad as they have in years past though, coming into Sundays game with a 23-29 record. As they go for the sweep, they will throw out MacKenzie Gore on the mound, the man that they hope can develop into an ace in the league after he was a big part in the Juan Soto trade last year. After hovering around the 3.0 ERA mark for the beginning month or so, in his last two starts, he has allowed 7 earned runs on 10.0 innings pitched. Even worse, he has let up the long ball, giving up 3 homers in those 10.0 innings as well. Flipping over to their lineup, surprisingly, they are getting solid production from guys all around the order. Most impressively, 31 year-old DH Joey Meneses has poked the ball to all fields in the early parts of the season so far, sitting comfortably with a .300 average from his first 207 at-bats.

Kansas City can not seem to get anything going at the moment, as they sit with a 15-38 record, good for the second worst record in the MLB. Coming into Sunday afternoon's game, they will have their sites set on avoiding the sweep, as a sweep on your home field never feels good at all. To stop the bleeding, they will have Daniel Lynch on the bump, who was just reinstated from the IL and put back into the Royals rotation today. Looking back at his first two years in the league, Kansas City will be optimistic that he can produce a better output than he has in his 42 starts that he made for them from 2021-2022. His career stats have him with a 8-19 record, a 5.32 ERA, and a shocking 1.59 WHIP. Time will tell if the long offseason allowed him to work on his mechanics in order to become a mainstay in the rotation for years to come. Offensively, the Royals will surely have been disappointed by Bobby Witt Jr.'s early goings. Even though he has 9 home runs, 25 RBIs, and an astounding 15 stolen bases, they will want him to be on base more often than his current .272 OBP shows as the year progresses.

Betting trends to consider in this matchup:

- The Nationals are 8-14 when coming off of a win

- The under is 10-6-1 when the Royals play a non-League opponent

- The under is 6-3 in the last 9 games for the Royals

It is not everyday that you will see me throwing my money at a 15-38 team, but today is going to be one of those days. The Royals are only getting 26% of the bets from the public, but they are bringing in over 60% of the money. Apart from them receiving smart money on their side, I do not like how Gore has looked in his last two starts, as he has given up the long ball too often for my liking. Give me the Royals to salvage a game from the series as they get back in the win column!
