Betting Odds: Brewers (-190) / Over/Under (9.5)

Pick: Under 9.5 (-110)

Lets start the weekend in the Midwest, where the Milwaukee Brewers will be opening up a series with the Cincinnati Reds inside of Great American Ball Park.

Milwaukee has struggled in their last ten games with a 4-6 record, but they still sit atop the NL Central (0.5 game up on the Pittsburgh Pirates). Last night, they were utterly dominated by Kevin Gausman and the Blue Jays, striking out eleven times to Gausman in the 6 2/3 that he pitched. Looking at their lineup at the moment, if I am the opposing team, I am not terrified by any single guy 1-9. If they are still in the race come the trade deadline, watch out for the Brewers to try and bolster their lineup in order to add some pop. On the mound for tonights game will be former Cy Young winner, Corbin Burnes. For his standards, he has struggled in his first eleven games pitched thus far, coming in with a 4-4 record and 3.68 ERA. Despite this though, he is still amongst the top of the league in letting up weak contact, so time will tell if he can continue to induce soft contact against an inferior Reds lineup.

Similar to the Brewers struggles last night, the Reds also fell short by a score of 8-2 to the Boston Red Sox. But, things could certainly be worse for them at the moment as they are 26-30 on the year. It was not too long ago where they opened up the season abysmally and were out of the Playoff race within the first two months, so this should be seen as a massive improvement. On the mound for the Reds tonight will be rookie 25 year old, Brandon Williamson. In his first 14 1/3 innings pitched across four starts, he has let up eight earned runs. Despite this, he was able to fair well against the Colorado Rockies on the road, so he certainly has the ability to pitch well in the big leagues. Furthermore, the Brewers struggle mightily against left-handers, so he will also have that on his side in Friday nights game. With the Brewers bats currently cold of late, can Williamson deliver his best performance yet to steal game one from Milwaukee?

Betting trends to consider in this matchup:

- The under is 16-9-1 when the Brewers are coming off of a loss

- The under is 7-2 in division games for Milwaukee

- The under is 16-13 when the Reds are coming off of a loss

Looking at both starting pitchers for todays game, there is surely a weaker of the two. Nevertheless, I believe this matchup sets up well for him to dominate a struggling Brewers lineup before he hands it off to the bullpen. For Burnes, I expect his ERA to start to come down as we progress through the season as his numbers do not look crooked at all compared to previous years. Give me the under in Great American Ball Park as we hope to watch a snooze fest!
