Pick: Phillies (+105)

Sunday Night Baseball is back, and tonight we will be heading to Arlington to take a look at a matchup between the Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers, as the Phillies attempt to prevent their season from starting 0-3.

After going on an insane ride in October to only fall 2 games short of winning the World Series, the Philadelphia Phillies have abysmally started the season. In what was supposed to be one of the most improved pitching staffs in the league, the Phillies have not shown up yet, letting 27 runs up in their first 2 games played. Now, heading into the first edition of SNB in the new year, Philadelphia will hope that they can at least steal 1 before they fly to New York to face the Yankees the following day. Looking on the bright side, Nick Castellanos, Alec Bohm, and J.T. Realmuto have all looked ready to roll from the first pitch of the season. With Bryce Harper out of the lineup for an extended period, they will rely heavily on them to keep their season afloat before the superstar right fielder is slotted back into the lineup.

The Rangers unexpectedly shocked the baseball world and splashed the cash to sign Jacob deGrom in the offseason for a whopping 5-year/185 million dollar contract. Although he was not his sharpest in his Opening Day start against the Phillies, his offense was able to pick him up in a huge way. With the likes of Marcus Semien and Corey Seager at the top of their lineup, they boast one of the best 1-2 punches in the MLB. In saying this though, catcher Mitch Garver has stolen the headlines early to start the year. On Saturday night, he hit two 3-run home runs, finishing off one of the best games of his lengthy career. It is one of the most difficult tests in all of baseball to sweep a team, especially to start the year, so time will tell if the Rangers can pass the test under the bright lights on Sunday night.

The Phillies put out Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler to start their season off on the right note but were not able to do so, as they let up 9 runs combined in their 8 innings pitched. Heading into the final game of the series, I expect the Phillies to flex their muscle. Their bullpen is not as putrid as they have been over the first 18 innings to begin the long season. They have started extremely slow, but I will side with Philly to get on the right side of things for the first time on Sunday night at plus money.
