New York Knicks (29-26) at Orlando Magic (22-32)

Game Info: Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. EST (Amway Center)

Betting Odds: Knicks (-2) / Over/Under (227)

Pick: Magic (+2)

Two Eastern Conference foes will meet on Tuesday night, when the New York Knicks head into South Florida to take on the Orlando Magic inside of the Amway Center.

New York currently sits comfortably in the 7 seed in the East, definitely feeling good about themselves after beating the 76ers at home two nights ago. They have been wildly inconsistent throughout the season so far, trading off several extended win/loss streaks up until now. This has caused them to stay around the .500 mark for the better part of the season. Currently, they have won 4 out of their last 11 games (4-7 ATS in that stretch) and have lost by a wide margin in a fair share of those games. As they head on the road after a 4-game home stretch, they will look to get their good mojo back in order to climb up the standings. As the trade deadline approaches, they are surely a team to watch as they have several pieces they can move in order to boost their chances of making a run in the Playoffs.

Although they are still a ways away from a play-in spot, the Magic have quietly looked impressive in my eyes over the last month. Since January 4th, they are 9-8 SU and 12-5 ATS, a big improvement over their initial output to start the season. Head Coach Jamahl Mosley will be encouraged about his team’s improvements over their last 4-game road trip in which they were able to capture 3 wins by a combined 23 points against the 76ers, Timberwolves, and Hornets. With the young core that they have, the Magic could play their way into big free agent names in the offseason if their young guns continue on their current trajectory, and Orlando’s front office is willing to open their pockets to a superstar salary. I’ve mentioned it before, and I will mention it again, Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner are an extremely under-the-radar duo that has the potential to be an All-Star combo for years to come. As they come home to the Sunshine State, can the Magic produce another good outing and win another game against a quality opponent.

A few betting trends to consider in this matchup:

  • Orlando is the second best team in the NBA ATS with a 31-22-1 record
  • Orlando is 14-6-1 ATS after a win
  • The Knicks are 4-7 ATS in their last 11 games played

Orlando has looked utterly promising over their last month of basketball, and more recently have looked even better. Sure the Knicks have more firepower at the moment, but with the way the Magic are playing of late, I trust their budding roster to take this one at home against an inconsistent Knicks team going on the road after a week at home. Give me Orlando to stifle the Knicks and continue their climb to an unexpected playoff push.
