Let's start the weekend off on the right note as we head to the Midwest to take a look at a matchup between the San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers inside of Comerica Park.
San Francisco has gotten off to a rocky start to begin the year, coming into this one with a 5-7 record. Last series, they were only able to take one from their archrivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, losing the series 2-1 (outscored by 8 runs). Now, they will bring their attention to a severely inferior opponent in the Detroit Tigers, giving them a prime spot to bounce back and get the good vibes back in the Bay Area. Sean Manaea will be on the bump for them in Friday night's game. He has had two polar opposite starts to start the season off, with the last one being the better of the two. On April 8th, he was able to stifle the Kansas City Royals offense in a much-needed dominant start, where he was able to throw for 6 innings while only letting up a mere 1 run on 3 hits. The Giants will look for him to dominate a below-average offense that the Tigers have to offer come first pitch as they set their sites on getting back to .500 as soon as possible.

Detroit is a complete mess at the moment. They come in with the second-worst record in the league, with only 3 wins on the year so far. In saying that though, they were able to take down the Toronto Blue Jays last night by a score of 3-1. In that game, the Tigers got a solid showing by starting pitcher Spencer Turnbull, who was able to deal 5 innings of good pitching before handing it off to the bullpen. Nevertheless, if the Tigers are going to make any noise this year around the league, they are going to need Javier Baez to get back to his old self. Right now he is holding the Detroit lineup down big time, only hitting .122 from his first 41 at-bats. Partner this with the fact that top prospects Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson have not been able to bloom yet in the big leagues, and you are destined to have a team that is struggling to find wins consistently on the diamond.
Betting trends to consider in this matchup:
- San Francisco is 5-1 when coming off of a loss
- Detroit is 0-3 as the home team
- The over is 4-2 when the Giants have played on the road
The Giants have been an excellent team coming off of a loss so far this year, and I expect it to continue here. If the Giants want a chance at battling for the NL West or Wild Card this upcoming year, beating teams like the Tigers will be at the top of their list as it does not get much worse than this. Joey Wentz has gotten rocked so far in his first two starts, letting up 8 earned runs over his first 7 innings pitched. San Francisco will jump all over his mistakes early and often and cruise to a win here!
