Game Info: Wednesday, July 26th, 2023 at  12:10 p.m. EST (Tropicana Field)

Betting Odds: Rays ML (-155) - Over/Under (7.5)

Pick: Over 7.5 Runs

Wednesday afternoon takes us to Tropicana Field where the Miami Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays will be wrapping up a quick to game series here on Wednesday afternoon. Tampa Bay picked up the victory over Miami in the opening game of the series and they will be looking to complete the quick two game sweep here on Wednesday.

The Miami Marlins have arguably exceeded expectations this season as they are sitting right outside of the wildcard race in the National League at the moment. They come into this game on Wednesday afternoon in third place of the National League East division behind the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies. Luis Arraez has proved to be one of the biggest steals in the history of baseball after they traded for him in the off-season and traded Pablo López to the Minnesota Twins. He is having a fantastic season and he is on a historic pace as he looks to become the first guy since Ted Williams to head over .400 in a single season. However, Luis Arraez hasn’t been able to put the entire Marlins team on his back as they come into this game with a negative run differential of 25. They will be looking to produce more runs after only scoring a single run in the opening game of this series on Tuesday night.

The Miami Marlins come into the second game of this series with a record of 54-48 through their first 102 games of the 2023 Major League Baseball season. However, they are currently experiencing a rough patch as they have been the worst team in baseball since coming out of the All-Star break. They have lost nine out of their last 10 games on the season and they will be looking to turn things around in the second game of the series on Wednesday to avoid getting swept by Tampa Bay. Their ace Sandy Alcantara is expected to take the mound for them in this one, and he is one of the many pitchers who has been negatively affected by the implementation of a pitch clock. As he comes into this game with nine losses on his record, and only three victories throughout the season.

The Tampa Bay Rays are having a fantastic season, but it is fair to say that they have struggled since coming out of the All-Star break. For the majority of the year they held onto the best record in all of Major League Baseball, and they were in first place in the American League East division. However, at the moment they have fallen behind Baltimore for first place, and they no longer have the best record in baseball because that belongs to the Atlanta Braves. They will be looking to use the momentum from their victory on Tuesday night against the Miami Marlins to complete the quick two game sweep of Miami here on Wednesday afternoon at home as they look to head into the weekend with plenty of positive momentum as they try to regain first place from Baltimore.

Tampa Bay has showcased that they have one of the best lineups in all of baseball this season, and Sandy Alcantara has struggled throughout the year against quality hitters. I expect Tampa Bay to take full advantage of that as they could very well possibly score all eight runs that would be required to go over the total runline set for the finale of this series. I expect Tampa Bay to hang a crooked number on the board here on Wednesday afternoon against Miami, and for the Marlins to put a couple runs towards the over as I look for this wanted to be a high scoring game, and potentially even a one-sided game as I expect Tampa Bay to grab a victory over Miami as well.

Betting trends to consider in this matchup:

- After a win Tampa Bay has gone over in almost 60% of their games this season

- Tampa Bay’s over is 32-22-1 at home this season

- Tampa Bay has gone over the runline is 53% of their games this season

I look for the Tampa Bay Rays and the Miami Marlins to go over their total runs here in the finale of their quick to game series on Wednesday afternoon at Tropicana Field. The total is set at seven and a half runs and with the way Tampa Bay’s offense has played this season, they could very well eclipse that on their own. I expect this one to be a high scoring game. Tampa Bay eventually comes out on top of.
