Tuesday night brings us an intriguing matchup in an inter-Conference game between the Miami Hurricanes and the Virginia Tech Hokies, facing off in Cassell Coliseum.
Miami is a team to keep your eye on as tournament time comes around. Having won all 6 of their last games (5-1 ATS in that stretch), they have managed to come within 0.5 games of the Virginia Cavaliers atop the ACC. With a win against the Hokies on the road, they can level their Conference record with the Cavaliers, as they attempt to keep their hot streak alive. Something I am always looking out for when March comes around is teams that have grown as the season has progressed, and Miami certainly fits that mold. Leading scorer, Isaiah Wong, comes off of a 27-point extremely efficient outing against Wake Forest, but the production that they can get from all 5 starters is what sticks out the most when you tune into a Hurricanes game. Jim Larranaga has instilled an incredible unselfish gene in his squad, which has benefited them tremendously on their path to being 22-5 up until now. Will they come into Cassell Coliseum with the energy that they have built up over the past few weeks and secure another win?

Virginia Tech has managed to right the ship a bit after opening up Conference Play 0-7 SU and ATS, now boasting a 6-10 record in the ACC. If they want any sort of salvaging on their season on Tuesday night, exacting revenge on Miami after losing to them 3 weeks back can do the trick. Senior forward, Grant Basile, is the key cog to the Hokies offense, averaging 16.7 PTS on a stellar 52% from the field. Over his last 4 games, he has truly put the V-Tech offense on his back, scoring 109 points in that cluster of games. If he can stretch that imposing play-style on the Hurricanes at home, the Hokies will like their chances in playing some spoiler on the Hurricanes season. On the defensive side of the ball, in a game that should see points scored consistently, the Hokies will need to play excellent in transition to avoid Miami from pulling away; something they have done in bunches across the season. Although Virginia Tech has had a disappointing season, a win here would firmly have them avoid a first-round matchup in the ACC Tournament. Can they flip the script on the Hurricanes and get a staple win as the regular season comes to a close?
Betting trends to consider in this matchup:
- The Hurricanes are 4-0 ATS as an away underdog
- Miami is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games played
- The Hokies are 4-8 ATS when playing on equal rest as their opponent
This line is as fishy as can be. A virtual top-10 squad that is fighting for a top seed in their Conference against a below-average bunch with much less to play for... but being a favorite at home. We have seen this story over and over again, and I assume to be on the public side in this one as the public loves backing a ranked team against an unranked one. But I am going to throw all of that out the window and tell you that the Hurricanes are the better team by a wide margin and have a slew of scorers that can attack the Hokies all over the floor. Give me Miami to keep it rollin'!
