Thursday night brings us a potential Playoff matchup that we can see in the coming weeks when the Miami Heat head into Wells Fargo Center to take on the Philadelphia 76ers.

Although their chances are slim, the Heat still have a chance to jump into the illustrious 6-seed in the East if they can secure a few key wins down the stretch and get some help from a Nets collapse. Currently, they sit 1.5 games back of Brooklyn with 3 games to play, so a win tonight could give them a much-needed boost to put some pressure on the Nets' backs in their last few regular season games. Ironically, the Heat are the worst team in the NBA ATS this year, with an abysmal 28-48-3 ATS record up until now. If they are to improve on that record tonight and steal a win away from the 76ers, it will give them a sense of confidence heading into the Postseason that they have the goods to compete with the best in the East. With Bam Adebayo listed as questionable coming into this one with a left quad strain, Jimmy Butler will need to be at his best to give his team a shot in front of a raucous crowd.

Philadelphia is at that point in the season where they know what seed they are locked into. Right now, they would face the Brooklyn Nets in the First Round of the Playoffs, but as I previously mentioned, if the Heat can burst into that spot, it would be this exact matchup in the opening series. All year long it was a 3 headed race between Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Joel Embiid for the MVP award... but I believe Embiid settled the winner in his last game. On Tuesday night, he put in one of the best games of his lengthy career with the 76ers, scoring a whopping 52 points on 20-25 shooting from the field. It was truly a masterclass to watch. Now that Philly knows that they are locked into the 3-seed, we shall see if they back off at all to make sure that none of their essential players get hurt before the Playoffs begin. Having failed to cover in their last 2 outings, can the 76ers manage to eke out a win versus a familiar Eastern Conference foe in the Miami Heat on Thursday night on TNT?

Betting trends to consider in this matchup:

- Miami is 11-27-3 ATS coming off of a win in their prior game

- The Heat are 16-31-2 ATS in Conference games

- Philadelphia is 25-15-1 ATS when playing on equal rest as their opponent

When it gets this late in the season, the games become a bit trickier to read with some teams battling for position in the standings and others already knowing their destiny. Although the 76ers are aware that they are stuck in the 3-hole, Embiid is playing at an otherworldly level right now, and I don't see Miami having the goods to stop him. Give me Philly to take home the win by a few buckets as Embiid dominates late in crunch time!
