Memphis Grizzlies (31-17) at Minnesota Timberwolves (25-25)

Game Info: Friday, January 27, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. EST (Target Center)

Betting Odds: Grizzlies (-4) / Over/Under (237)

Pick: Timberwolves (+4)

Anytime we get to see Ja Morant and Anthony Edwards go against each other, I'm all in. This Friday night we will get to see this again as the Grizzlies come into Minnesota to face off against the Timberwolves.

Memphis is in a bit of a slump right now, having lost the last 4 games SU and only covering in 1 of their last 5. It isn't all gloomy days for the Grizzlies though, they are still sitting firmly in the 2 spot in the West (3.5 games up of the Kings). Ja Morant is having another outstanding season, putting in 27.3 PTS and 8.0 AST per game, but the production that they have been able to get from their secondary pieces is even more impressive. Morant steals a lot of the attention from their other key pieces, but they certainly do not go unnoticed to someone that watches them play on a game-by-game basis. Desmond Bane has improved every facet of his game this year, improving in every stat category from a year ago substantially. Add in the likes of Jaren Jackson Jr., Dillon Brooks, Brandon Clarke, and Tyus Jones, and you have one of the best cores the league. They have lost by a combined 5 points in 3 of their last 4 losses, will they be able to stop the skid they are currently in by putting up a fight on the road to the T-Wolves?

The Timberwolves are definitely a disappointment so far this season. The trade for Rudy Gobert was supposed to put them over the top, but I always questioned how they would integrate him with Karl-Anthony Towns in the same lineup. They have been without Towns for a while now due to a calf injury, and they seem to have gained some momentum without their All-Star center. Over their last 4 games, they have especially found a bit of a rhythm. Having won 3 out of their last 4 SU (4-1 ATS in their last 5), they have kept themselves above water in the jam-packed Western Conference standings. During January, SG, Anthony Edwards has been absolutely phenomenal. He has put in 30+ points in his last 3 games, and has showed great court vision with 14 assists in those games as well. They are a very immature, undisciplined team at times, and this is why they haven't been able to get over the hump yet. On the bright side for Minnesota fans however, there is plenty of time to go on a run towards mid-April towards Playoff season.

Betting trends to consider in this matchup:

- The Grizzlies are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games played

- Minnesota is 7-3 ATS as a home underdog

- Memphis is 10-18-1 ATS in Conference games

- The under has hit in 4 out of the last 5 games that the Grizzlies have played in

I see this line dropping at least a point by tipoff. The Grizzlies are below-average away from home and the Timberwolves are above-average at home, two factors that play well into this game. With the way Edwards is playing, it doesn't seem as if any team can stop him at the moment. Give me the T-Wolves to keep it close at home, and maybe snatch a win from the Grizzlies on Friday night.
