Betting Odds: Astros ML (-120) - Over/Under (9.5)

Pick: Astros ML (-120)

The Houston Astros and the Toronto Blue Jays will open up a three game series here on Monday night north of the border in Canada. These are two teams that came into this season with high expectations of making deep postseason runs, but so far both of them have been pretty lackluster throughout the first half of the year. That is something both teams will look successful throughout the week and it all starts with the opening game of the Monday night. Both Houston and Toronto will look for a pivotal victory to open up this stretch. As both teams look to continue to gain footing in the American League wildcard race heading into July.

The Houston Astros are coming off of a World Series appearance only a couple of years ago, but they got off to a very rough start this season. Throughout the first couple months of the year, they were one of the worst teams in all of baseball, but throughout the last month and a half they have started to turn things around and put themselves in a position to make the postseason. This game hovering around .500, as they had north of the border to face the Toronto Blue Jays throughout the week.

They have put themselves in a position to climb back up the American League West standings, and with another successful week, they will put themselves back into contention for the division alongside the Seattle Mariners throughout the second half of the season. Houston has been playing fantastic baseball as of late winning nine out of their last ten games and two in a row coming into the opening game of this series on Monday. They will look to further maintain that momentum with another impressive showing throughout the opening game of this series against Toronto.

The Toronto Blue Jays are a team that had high expectations coming into the season as many people had them penciled in as the potential winners of the American League East division. They certainly have plenty of talent on the roster however, the roster has been unable to put it all together and become successful throughout the first half of this season. It has been so bad at this point that they are in serious danger of breaking things up before the trade deadline and trading away a couple key pieces like Bo Bichette. Toronto really needs to get the ball rolling if they want to remain competitive and intact past the trade deadline and make one final run at a postseason appearance.

Yariel Rodriguez we’ll get the start for Toronto in this game opposite Hunter Brown for Houston and both pitchers will look to lead their team to a much-needed victory to open up this series. Brown comes into this game with five victories on the season meanwhile, Rodriguez is still looking for his first one of the year and this would be a perfect time to get it against a scorching hot Houston Astros team. Toronto has been playing lackluster baseball as of late losing seven out of their last 10 and falling all the way to the last place of the American League East division. Which is not great for them as they will be playing catch-up in the toughest division in all of baseball throughout the rest of the season.

Betting trends to consider in this matchup:

- Houston is 9-1 over their last ten

- Toronto is 20-21 at home

- Toronto is 25-36 against teams above .500

This is a game that should be very competitive throughout the early stages of the contest, but in the end, I do look for the Houston Astros to go on the road against Toronto and pick up the victory. Houston has been playing amazing baseball as of late and I don’t see the momentum slowing down anytime soon as I look for Houston to win their third consecutive game in a row to continue climbing back up standings within their division.
