Betting Odds: Guardians ML (-120) - Over/Under (7.5)

Pick: Guardians ML (-120)

The Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Guardians will meet for the first time this season here on Monday night at Progressive Field as both of these teams are coming off of a weekend series. Cleveland is coming off of a series where they dropped two out of three games to the Los Angeles Angels, but they were able to bounce back in the finale on Sunday. As for Detroit they are coming off of a series against the New York Yankees, where they lost all three games over the weekend on the road at Yankee Stadium. Both teams will be looking to bounce back and find more success to open up the week as they look to get into the month of May and keep the momentum rolling throughout the second month of the regular season.

Jack Flaherty will get the baseball for the Detroit Tigers in the opening game of this series on Monday night in Cleveland. He is off to a relatively rough start to the regular season as he has one loss and zero victories on his record and his Earned Run Average currently sitting at four. That is something he will look to improve on here on Monday night as he takes on one of the best teams in baseball and one of the hottest lineups in baseball throughout the early part of the regular season. He will be able to throughout this game in the middle Guardians lineup could make a very long night for Flaherty and the Detroit Tigers.

Flaherty has been up and down this season as he has racked up around 50 strikeouts throughout the early part of the year, but he has also given up five home runs as well. He has a picture that is not afraid to attack the zone and it shows with his numbers, but he will have to be cautious against guys like Josh Naylor and Jose Ramirez here on Monday night. He may not get much runs support from his lineup as this Detroit Tigers team has scored less than four runs in five out of their last six games. Including only a single run in three games over that span so the help might be few and far between for Flaherty, which means he will have to keep Cleveland off the board here on Monday night.

The Cleveland Guardians have hit a bit of a slump over the last couple of games. They lost two out of three to the Atlanta Braves and then proceeded to lose two out of three to the Houston Astros and then followed that up by losing two out of three to the Los Angeles Angels. They will look to hit the reset button when they open this series of the Detroit Tigers on Monday night at home. They are in desperate need of a series victory heading into the first full week of May as they look to get things back on track and extend their lead on top of the American League Central division in the process.

Cleveland was finally able to get back into the win column with a dominant performance against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday in the finale, led by a pair of home runs from Josh Naylor and Jose Ramirez. They will need more of that here on Monday night if they want to continue being successful as the other hitters in the lineup will need to find a way to get on base and make the starting pitcher work. Tristan McKenzie will get baseball on Monday and he has had a problem throughout the season as he has been giving up walks left and right and that is something he will need to work on here in this one. If he wants to be dominant and get back to his old ways before his injury, he will need to get better in order to be successful.

Betting trends to consider in this matchup:

- Cleveland is 10-5 at home

- Cleveland is 9-3 as a home favorite

- Cleveland is 4-1 in the AL Central

I expect the Cleveland Guardians to pull out the victory here on Monday night at home against the Detroit Tigers. Over the past several seasons, Cleveland has owned the season series against Detroit as they have crushed the Tigers throughout the span of multiple years. I look for them to get this season series off on the right foot with a comfortable and much-needed victory here on Monday night, led by solid performance from Josh Naylor and Jose Ramirez at the plate.
