The first game of the NBA Finals will take place here on Thursday night at TD Garden in Boston. It has been a long road to get down to the final two teams in the NBA and finally either the Dallas Mavericks or the Boston Celtics will claim the NBA championship this season. It was a difficult road for the Dallas Mavericks to get to the NBA finals as they had to take down three different teams that won over 50 games this season. They will have plenty of rest after defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves and only five games in the Western Conference finals after coming into the series, and arguably every series this playoff season as underdogs.
The combination of Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving has been incredible throughout the postseason and now they will look to put up fantastic numbers once again throughout this series to lead Dallas to a championship. If Dallas wants to be successful in this series, they will need to find a way to contain Jason Tatum, and Jaylen Brown. If they can shut down Boston’s primary score, then the Mavericks should have a huge advantage over the Celtics throughout the course of this series and especially here in game one on Thursday night. You could argue that the Boston Celtics had a much easier road through the postseason than their counterparts did coming into this series. As Boston dispatched all three of their opponents and only five games, and they will be hoping they can do the same to the Dallas Mavericks and it starts with picking up a fourth victory here in game number one at home. As Boston is 3-0 series openers at home throughout the postseason and they will maintain that momentum with another solid win here on Thursday night. The Celtics have been particularly dominant at home throughout the postseason, only dropping a game each to Cleveland and Miami and the earlier two rounds. They will look to remain perfect in series opening games at home with a victory here in this one.
Tatum and Brown will be the focal points for the Boston Celtics throughout this series, but guys like Derrick White have a massive opportunity to be an X factor for the Celtics and help lead them to a championship as well. He was instrumental in multiple games throughout the first three rounds of the postseason and they will need him to step up and put up stellar numbers throughout the NBA finals if they want to find success and bring home their 18th NBA championship. Boston will look to come out in this game on Thursday night at home and set the tone with a huge victory to open up this final series.
