Friday night takes us to the Pacific Northwest where both of these teams are fighting for bowl eligibility late in the regular season. As the Colorado Buffaloes and the Washington State Cougars meet here on Friday night with the loser, becoming eligible to play in a bowl game this season and the winner keeping their hopes alive heading into the regular season finale next weekend. Both of these teams had red hot starts the regular season, but both of them could not maintain that success and now they are both closing in on recording a losing season this year unless they win the remaining two games on their schedule.
After opening up the regular season with an upset of TCU, Colorado had high hopes throughout the year. However, those quickly ended after a few more weeks after their hot start to the season faded, and they ran into a very tough conference schedule. Coming up against the likes of Washington, UCLA, Oregon, and USC was no easy task for the young Buffaloes, and they were unable to handle it throughout the meat and potatoes of their schedule. However, they will be looking to close out the regular season, strong as the opportunity still arises for them to play in a bowl game this season if they win the remaining two games on their schedule and if there are not enough bowl eligible teams, they could potentially get in with five victories as well.
They will be looking to wrap up the regular season on a high note and it starts with a victory in this game over Washington State on the road here on Friday night. First year head coach Deion Sanders certainly has a lot to build off of heading into his second year as the leader of this program as they have shown plenty of progress compared to how this program was before Deion Sanders arrived. He will need to recruit some lineman as they’ve been bullied on the line pretty much all year by everyone they faced and they will need to bulk up the defense if they want to be successful when they return to the Big 12 next year. He has created a stable foundation for this Colorado program, and as long as he sticks around and sticks to the plan, this is a team that could be competitive well into the future, even potentially next year, if all the chips fall into place for the Buffaloes.

Washington State finds themselves in an identical situation as Colorado as they had a very hot start of the year but things quickly faded when they entered conference play. At one point in the year, Washington State was teetering on making it into the top 10 of the country, but things fell apart once they ran into some buzz saws throughout the conference play, and they will be looking to finish the regular season strong. They will need to win the remaining two games on their schedule if they want to qualify for a bowl game this season and they will have to defend their home field against Colorado here on Friday night to accomplish one of those goals.
This is a program that has a bright future although their future is unknown, because their conference is falling apart, and they are one of the two members that did not get an invitation elsewhere.
