Betting Odds: Nationals ML (-145) - Over/Under (9)
Pick: Nationals ML (-145)
Tuesday night takes us to the capital of the United States of America for the second game of the series between the Colorado Rockies and the Washington Nationals. Both of these teams have had less than impressive seasons, but it is fair to say that one of them has been a lot more competitive than the other. However, Colorado picked up a victory over Washington on Monday night in the opening game of the series and they will be looking to do the same here in game number two as well.
The Colorado Rockies have shown that they still have a long way to go in their rebuilding process with their performance this season. They have been one of the worst teams in all of Major League Baseball, and they sit in last place in the National League West division. However, they did get a leg up on the Washington Nationals in the opening game of their series on Monday night as they got to Patrick Corbin early and scored double-digit runs to pick up a much-needed victory. Now Colorado will be looking to double down on their victory on Monday night to clinch the series with another victory on Tuesday and set up a potential sweep opportunity coming into Wednesday's finale.
Austin Gomber will be taking the mound he did not have a solid start to the season, and he has continued to struggle up until this point of the year as well. He comes into this game with as many victories on his record as he does losses as he has eight wins, and eight losses this season. He will have his hands full going against Washington here on Tuesday night as he has shown that he has problems when pitching away from Coors Field. The Colorado Rockies are well out of playoff contention and they are 18 and a half games out of first place in the National League West division behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. They have only managed to pick up 40 victories through their first 100 games of the season and if things don’t improve soon they look to be on pace to lose over 100 games this year.

The Washington Nationals team that you see try it out every day this season is far removed from the Washington Nationals team that brought home the World Series in 2019. Since lifting the commissioner's trophy they have been stuck in a rebuild and they are showing signs of making progress as they have been a bit more competitive than people would’ve expected this season. However, they did drop the first game of the series to the Colorado Rockies, and they will be looking to bounce back here on Tuesday night and even up the series before heading into Wednesday's finale. Trevor Williams is expected to get the start for Washington in this one when he comes into this game with his record at .500 with five victories and five losses on the season.
The Washington Nationals are coming into this game sitting in last place in the National League East division, and they will likely finish the season in the basement as well. Unless things change quickly, they will be yet another team in Major League Baseball this season to have triple-digit losses as they are clearly on pace to lose over 100 games this season. Before their loss to Colorado on Monday night, they were coming off of a three-game weekend sweep of the San Francisco Giants and they had plenty of momentum coming into the opening game of the series. They will be looking to bounce back from their loss, and even up this series before heading into Wednesday’s finale.
Betting trends to consider in this matchup:
- Colorado is 17-34 as a road underdog
- Colorado is 16-23 after a win this season
- Washington is 4-2 when Williams pitches at home against NL teams
I expect the Washington Nationals to draw even and even up this series with the Colorado Rockies here on Tuesday night. As I look for Trevor Williams to have a much better performance on the mound than Austin Gomber and for Washington to put a crooked number up on the board after their six-run performance on Monday night.
