The Cleveland Guardians and the Toronto Blue Jays will play the second game of their three game weekend series north of the border in Canada on Saturday afternoon. These are two teams that game into the 2024 Major League Baseball season with different expectations and it’s fair to say it seems as if they’ve traded places throughout the early part of the year. Cleveland picked up a victory in the opening game of the series and now they will look to officially clinch the series here in the second game. Cleveland has been tremendous throughout the early part of the regular season and they will look to keep the momentum rolling with another victory here on Saturday afternoon against Toronto. Cleveland has shocked the baseball world and they are arguably the biggest surprise of the first half of the 2024 Major League Baseball season. This is a baseball club that everybody expected to be in full rebuild mode throughout this season and into the future, but it has been the exact opposite for them so far. They currently have a sizable lead on the American League Central division, and they will look to further extend their lead with another victory in this one.
Carlos Carrasco will get the start here on Saturday for Cleveland and he has struggled throughout the early part of the year so he will look to get things going in the right direction with a much-needed victory. It’ll be extremely helpful for him. If the Cleveland offense could continue to play the way they’ve played throughout the early part of the year as well. A lot of people thought that the Toronto Blue Jays would be a potential World Series contender coming into the season. However, they are looking like potential sellers at the trade deadline with the way their first half of the regular season has gone. They will desperately need to get things back on track in time for the deadline if they want to remain competitive and keep their core and make another run at a World Series title. Unfortunately, for Toronto they happen to play in the toughest division in baseball, which certainly does no favors, but that is something they will have to overcome if they want to grab one of the American League wildcard spots this season.
Toronto will also come into this game, looking to grab a bounce back victory against Cleveland after being pretty ineffective on offense throughout Friday night's game. As they only put a single run on the board and this is an offense that is more than capable of putting up crooked innings time and time again. But they will need to improve throughout this game if they want to bounce back and even up this series heading into Sunday’s finale. This is a Toronto lineup that has struggled against Carrasco for the ones that have faced him, and that is something they cannot let happen tomorrow with the struggles.
