Tonight we will get a rematch of the shocking Game 7 played last year in the Playoffs, when the Dallas Mavericks head into Phoenix to take on the Suns in the Footprint Center at 10:00 p.m. EST.
Dallas will look to somehow get their season back on the right track on Thursday night. Having lost 7 out of their last 9 games (2-7 ATS in this run of games), they just can't seem to string anything together in order to gain a few wins in a row. They have not been able to get a consistent effort on the defensive end, which has caused them to get in big holes night after night recently. This puts an immense amount of pressure on Luka Doncic to orchestrate the offense successfully on every possession in hopes to keep up with the opposing team. With two starters (Christian Wood and Maxi Kleber) still out, they are in a situation where they might go out and get a few pieces near the deadline to bolster their squad for a Playoff run. They aren't winning when Luka is putting up 40+ point triple-doubles on a consistent basis, so how are they going to win when he has an off-night? As they head on the road for a two game road trip, we will see if Head Coach Jason Kidd can get something out of his team to secure a big win against a budding rival in the West.

Phoenix is on a surprising hot streak right now, as they were supposed to be sputtering with Devin Booker currently out. They are 4-0 SU and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games played, beating the likes of the Nets and Grizzlies in that stretch. If they are to extend their win streak to 5 in a row, Deandre Ayton being active will play a big part in that. He is currently listed as probable to give it a go here, which would be a big boost to the Suns lineup, who is currently starting Bismack Biyombo in his place. Having split the first two games with Dallas to start the year, the Suns will have this one circled on their calendar as they try to repay some of the devastation that they caused to them in the Playoffs last year. Although Booker will still be inactive, if they can get Ayton back to run the pick & roll with Chris Paul, they will have success all night as the Mavs will be without two of their big men.
A few betting trends to consider in this matchup:
- The Suns are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games played
- Dallas is 7-16 ATS as the away team
- Dallas is last in the NBA in ATS record (16-31-2 ATS)
- Phoenix is 15-10 ATS as the home team
This line opened up with the Mavs being a short 1 point favorite on the road, but the Suns quickly flipped to the favorite short after. Coming off of a deflating loss last game to the Wizards, where Doncic scored 41 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, Dallas will feel like they can't do anything right right now to buy a win. On the other hand, Phoenix is finding ways to win every night without their superstar, getting big performances from their second, third, and fourth options in order to stay afloat in the jam-packed Western Conference. The Suns will keep it going here and jump the Mavericks in the standings as they continue to skid. Give me the Suns by at least a bucket.
