Betting Odds: Cavaliers (-1.5) / Over/Under (TBD)
Pick: Heat (ML)
As the games start to heat up as we head into the last portion of the regular season, we will get an enticing Eastern Conference matchup between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat on Wednesday night.
Cleveland has been as good as we expected them to be after acquiring Donovan Mitchell in the offseason. With a 41-26 record, they sit in the 4th spot in the East. Although they have played like a squad ready to compete against anyone come Playoff time, they have been uninspiring away from home, with a poor 13-19 (13-7-2 ATS) record on the road. As they head into Miami in hopes to extend their win streak to 3 games, they will have to overcome their road woes in a massive way against a quality opponent in the Heat. Last time out, they eked out a win versus the Boston Celtics on their home floor in overtime with a score of 118-114, where Mitchell was on fire, putting in 40 points en route to the win. He is the main show for the Cavs, but Darius Garland is surely not too far behind him, averaging 21.9 PTS and 7.9 AST on the year. With the explosiveness that they bring on a nightly basis, they are a headache to deal with against any backcourt in the league.

Miami secured 2 immense wins at home against the Atlanta Hawks in their last 2 games played, now extending their lead in the 7-hole to 2.5 games above the Hawks who were breathing down their neck. Looking purely at their record, they have disappointed compared to last season's output, but something tells me that the Heat are primed for a deep Playoff run if they can continue to gel late in the year. With the Playoff experience that their squad boasts, no matter where they are positioned heading into the postseason, they will be prepared for anything that will come their way. In contrast to the Cavs being abysmal on the road, the Heat have been a stellar home team. With a 21-12 home record, they have managed to play their style extremely well in the Miami-Dade Arena. As they welcome a step up in quality in the Cavaliers, they will need to use their home-court advantage in their favor to bring the proper energy against a Conference foe. Can the Heat inch closer to the illustrious 6-seed in the East with a mighty win against Cleveland?
Betting trends to consider in this matchup:
- Cleveland is 13-19 SU on the road
- The Cavaliers are 13-7-2 ATS away from home
- The over has hit in only 13 out of 34 games that the Heat have played after a win
The Heat have certainly not played their best basketball over large parts of the campaign, but I love how they were able to close out the last 2 games against the Hawks. Putting their record to the side, with Butler in the lineup, they have a seasoned closer that just finds ways to win games late in the year. We saw it last year during their Playoff run and we are starting to see it now in crunch time as well. I expect this to continue and for the Heat to get another win on their home floor against a tough opponent in the Cavs. Give me Miami straight up here!
