Friday afternoon brings us the opening home stand for the Philadelphia Phillies a day later than expected, when they welcome the Cincinnati Reds into Citizens Bank Park.
The Reds have started their season off much better than last year, where they had one of the worst opening months in MLB history. Although they have only played the Pirates and Cubs, two teams expected to be at the bottom of the NL this season, winning three out of their five first games will give them confidence heading into the Bank, where it will be rocking for the first home game of the year. This will be Hunter Greene's second outing in his second season for the Reds, with the first one having him pulled before he could get out of the fourth inning. We all know he has electric stuff, but if he is not able to develop secondary pitches to partner with his fastball, he is going to have a tough time getting outs consistently in the big leagues. Can he make positive strides in Philadelphia to start the series off on the right note for the Reds?

Philadelphia has started the season off slower than expected after acquiring Trea Turner in the offseason to bolster their already talented roster. With the injuries that are already starting to build up for them at key positions, they will surely hope that Bryce Harper can rehab quicker than most in his recovery from surgery in the offseason. Nevertheless, for the time being, they will have to do without the two time MVP winner. Heading home for their first series inside Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies will expect to get back on the right track against a far inferior squad in the Reds. If they are to do so, budding star Bryson Stott will surely have a big say in that. After heating up towards the end of last season heading into the Playoffs, he has carried over his quality play into this campaign, starting off 10/23 at the plate. Now that Jean Segura has left the team and headed down south to join the Miami Marlins, Stott will not have to worry about anyone taking his spot if he has a few bad games. This should lead to a more relaxed bat in the meat of the lineup for the Phillies, which will only bode well for them as the season progresses. With Zack Wheeler on the bump, we shall see if the Phillies can get a win to please the home crowd.
Although he is still highly touted around the league due to his previously noted electric fastball, I am not high on Hunter Greene at all. The Phillies will look to feast on his subpar ability to locate pitches in clutch situations and they will have supreme success with it. This Philadelphia squad has showed in interviews that they are ticked off by their 1-5 start to the season... fully expect them to bounce back here with a multi-run win.
