Betting Odds: Georgia Southern (-4) / Over/Under (67)

Pick: Georgia Southern (-4)

Today, we are going to be headed to Montgomery, Alabama to look at the Camellia Bowl, where the Buffalo Bulls take on the Georgia Southern Eagles. This is a game that has flown under the radar as it is during the day on a Tuesday after Christmas. Having said this, this should be a back and forth high scoring duel, so grab your leftovers and tune in at 12 p.m. EST to watch this clash.

Buffalo comes into this one off of a lackluster season going 6-6, but improving on last year's record, as they finished 2nd in the MAC East division after going 4-8 last season and missing a bowl game. They will face a familiar face on the other side of the ball as Kyle Vantrease, their former long time QB, now is running the offense on the Eagles side. The Bulls sputtered at the end of the year after starting the season off 5-3, surely looking like they were going to punch a ticket to a bowl game towards the end of the season. But, after three straight losses, they were forced with having to beat an abysmal Akron team to become bowl eligible. Thanks to a second half comeback, they were able to do so and end the season on a high note after a bumpy road to the finish line. They are fairly mediocre on both sides of the ball, relying on their star man (Marcus Fuqua) on defense to help flip the field and boost the offense as much as he can. Fuqua, who was given the honor of being named third-team All-American a short while ago, comes into this one having lead the nation in interceptions with seven. He will hope to help his team generate a bowl win and give Maurice Linguist something happy to bring into the offseason as his second season at the helm comes to a close. Can Buffalo end it's 0-4 run ATS and cash in on a bowl win, or will their year long struggles on both sides of the ball continue?

Georgia Southern also comes into this game coming off of a 6-6 regular season, but they will most likely be the more happy team as this wasn't supposed to be a successful year for them at all after coach Clay Helton was tasked with retooling the offense into a traditional modern day RPO offense. They ended the season on an exhilarating 51-48 OT win at home against Appalachian State to give them an opportunity to play in the Camellia Bowl. They will throw out their a top-40 offense in the nation, but it is important to note that two of their top four receivers will miss this one due to injury. On the defensive side, they rank as one of the worst units in the nation (124th rank), so we could certainly see a lot of points in this one. They will hope to improve on their 1-3 record ATS in their last 4 games and secure a win for Vantrease against his former squad.

A few betting trends to consider in this matchup:

- Buffalo is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games to close out the regular season

- 79% of the big money in this matchup is on the Eagles

- Georgia Southern is 2-0 ATS this season as a favorite

Despite the uninspiring seasons that both of these teams have had, due to poor play on the defensive side of the ball, this sets this game up as very enticing to the neutral eye. In saying this though, Georgia Southern's offense is much better on paper compared to Buffalo's, even if they will have to play this one banged up. The line opened up at 3 in favor of the Eagles, but sharp money has driven it up to the -4 to -4.5 range, which certainly makes sense when you take a deeper look at both teams. I'll take the Eagles and Vantrease to make a few more plays on offense to bring a bowl win back home on a short plane ride to Statesboro.
