Betting Odds: Bills ML (-130) - Over/Under (45.5)
Pick: Bills ML (-130)
Finally the first primetime Monday night football game of the season has arrived and it’ll be two AFC East division rivals doing battle in the opening game of the season. As the Buffalo Bills will travel to New Jersey to play the New York Jets here on Monday night and both teams have high hopes and plenty of expectations for the upcoming National Football League season. Both teams will feature top 10 quarterbacks, as Josh Allen will be leading the bills and the newly acquired Aaron Rodgers will be leading the New York Jets here in this one.
The Buffalo Bills come into the opening game of the season with plenty of expectations after once again, coming close to appearing in a Super Bowl last year. This is a Buffalo Bills franchise that has come so close over the last several seasons only to be stopped inches or seconds away from reaching their ultimate goal of playing in a Super Bowl. They will be hoping that this season is finally the year that they break through the glass ceiling and get themselves an opportunity to win a Lombardi trophy six months from now. They will also be looking to pick up a massive divisional victory to open up the season against the New York Jets, a team they have traditionally dominated over the last several seasons.
Buffalo has been the king of the AFC East over the last couple of seasons, which is something that has certainly differed from the norm over the past decade and a half. Now that Buffalo is the king of the division and it is no longer New England, Buffalo will be looking to defend their crown with a season opening victory over the New York Jets here on Monday night on the road in New Jersey. As long as Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs can both remain healthy and find consistent connection with each other this season, the sky's the limit for the Buffalo Bills this year. After several rumors of Stefon Diggs wanting to be traded away from Buffalo in the off-season, they will be looking to put those to rest here in the opening game of the season as well.

The New York Jets showed a ton of promise last year after they drafted both the offensive and defensive rookie of the year award winners, Garrett Wilson, and Sauce Gardner. Unfortunately, for the New York Jets a late season collapse led to the missing out on the postseason and they will be looking to rectify that mistake this season here on Monday night to open up the year at home against the Buffalo Bills. They have brought in a brand new quarterback in the future, Hall of Famer and former Most Valuable Player, as well as former Super Bowl winner, Aaron Rodgers and they will be hoping that he is the right man to lead this team to the promised land this season.
This is the second time that the New York Jets, or taking a massive gamble on a former Super Bowl, winning, MVP, winning, Green Bay Packers quarterback. Over a decade and a half ago they brought in Brett Favre to leave the franchise and they came very close to appearing in the Super Bowl as well. They will be hoping that Aaron Rodgers can get them over that final hurdle and lead this team to a Lombardi trophy. They will also be hoping to avoid the embarrassment that the New York Giants suffered at home on Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys. As the Jets will look to come out a lot more prepared than their New York counterparts were to open up the season.
Betting trends to consider in this matchup:
- Buffalo has won 4 out of the last 5 games vs the Jets
- Buffalo is 6-2 in New Jersey since 2017
- Buffalo was 6-2 on the road last season
I think it’ll be the Buffalo Bills to pick up the victory in the opening game of the season here on Monday night. As I look for them to spoil the New York City debut of Aaron Rodgers here in primetime, as I look for Josh Allen to outplay Aaron Rodgers, and lead Buffalo to a much-needed victory to open up the season. I expect this one to be a high scoring game that is close and competitive throughout the entirety of the match up, but in the end, I have Buffalo poking up the wind.
