Pick: Heat (-2.5)
Let's head into the new week by heading down south to Miami-Dade Arena to take a better look at an Eastern Conference clash between the Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat.
Atlanta has been a huge disappointment this year. After going out and trading for Dejounte Murray from the San Antonio Spurs, many thought that they could have a chance to cause some noise in the busy East. Although, there is a chunk of the regular season still to go, up until now they have looked utterly lackluster. With a 32-32 record, they managed to get their Head Coach fired not too long ago, and have not been able to muster any momentum after doing that as many teams have in the past. The coming weeks will give us a better picture as to where they stand compared to the top dogs in the East, but many signs are pointing towards a breakup between the Hawks and Trae Young if they continue to sputter. In their last 7 games, they have gone 3-4 SU and 2-5 ATS, losing to a variety of severely inferior rosters in that stretch. If they want any chance at turning their season around, a win in Miami could be the spark that they need. Can they get it done?

Miami has been another squad that hasn't been able to find its true identity up until now. Coming in sitting in the 7th spot in the East, if they are to stay in that position, they will have to make it out of the Play-In Tournament to even make it into the Playoff bracket. With last year's epic run to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they came up just short of the Boston Celtics, many questions have to be asked as to how they have regressed this time around. Although this is surely not a pass as the majority of teams battle knocks throughout the year, they have been on the wrong side of many unfortunate injuries that have derailed their season in part. As they continue to get their stars back healthy, they are a team capable of going on a good run of games if they can start clicking on both ends of the floor. With this being their 2nd game in 3 days at home against the Hawks, will they be able to send Atlanta back home below the .500 mark?
Betting trends to consider in this matchup:
- Atlanta is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games
- The over has only hit in 12 of 33 games that the Heat have played after a win
- The over is a mere 12-16 when the Hawks are the underdog
The Hawks have been a dysfunctional group for large parts of the years so far, and I do not see them fixing it overnight in Miami. They have not been able to get their act together on the road of late especially, after losing their last 4 away games by 43 combined points. With this one being held in Miami once again, expect Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler to get their way and bring home another convincing win versus the Hawks.
