Betting Odds: Braves ML (-110) - Over/Under (9.5)
Pick: Braves ML (-110)
The Atlanta Braves and the Boston Red Sox will play the third and final game of a two game interleague series here on Wednesday afternoon at historic Fenway Park. Both of these two teams have plenty of history dating back a long time, but in the present day, both of them have aspirations of making the postseason this year. This could end up being a crucial game for both teams as they have struggled a bit as of late and both of them could use the momentum boost that they would get from winning this series and this game on Wednesday.
This will be the fourth and final meeting between these two teams this season and so far the Atlanta Braves come into the finale with the series lead. Back in Atlanta the Braves won both games against the Red Sox and it wasn’t even close and now Atlanta will look to close out their time at Fenway on a positive note as well. Atlanta had high expectations coming into the season, but a bit of those expectations were derailed when they lost Ronald Acuña for the rest of the season. However, they still come into this game, sitting in second place of the National League East division, but they will certainly have some work to do to chase down Philadelphia, who has been the best team in baseball so far this year.
A victory in this game would help them accomplish that and they will look to further strengthen their hold on the National League wildcard heading into the middle of June as well. They have been struggling over their last 10 games and they are hoping to use this series against the Boston Red Sox to get things going in the right direction once again. Getting the baseball for Atlanta in the second game of this short two game series will be Spencer Schwellenbach. He was less than successful in his first career start and he will look to grab his first career MLB victory with a solid performance here on Wednesday afternoon. The entire rotation has big shoes fail after the loss of Spencer Strider and they will need to get in a groove if Atlanta wants to remain successful this season.

The Boston Red Sox had expectations of making the postseason coming into the campaign, but they have been rather average throughout the first couple months of the year. They have been floating around the .500 mark throughout the majority of the season and they will look for some marquee victories to get things going in the right direction. Boston will likely be playing catch-up throughout the rest of the year, as they are competing in the toughest division and all of baseball and the American League East division title gets farther and farther away from them with each passing game.
It seems pretty likely that their only chance of making the postseason is by finishing in one of the top three spots in the American League wildcard race. They will need to turn their play around in the back half of the season while they attempt to chase down teams like Baltimore and Kansas City for one of those three spots. Nick Pivetta will get the ball for Boston here in this one and he will look to lead the Red Sox to a much needed win. He comes into this game with a losing record of 2-4 so far this season. Boston will also look to avoid the series sweep with a victory here on Wednesday as well.
Betting trends to consider in this matchup:
- Atlanta is 3-0 against Boston
- Atlanta is 15-10 as a road favorite
- Boston is 14-16 after a loss
I expect the Atlanta Braves to grab the victory in the finale of this two game series against the Boston Red Sox here on Wednesday afternoon at Fenway Park. Even without Ronald Acuna in the lineup, Atlanta has a significant advantage at the plate and in the rotation, and I expect them to flex that advantage here in this one. As I look for the Atlanta Braves to pick up a much-needed victory as they continue their Philadelphia in the National League East division throughout the summer.
