Arizona Diamondbacks (9-10) at San Francisco Giants (8-11)

Game Info: Thursday, April 18th, 2024 at  9:45 p.m. EST (Oracle Park)

Betting Odds: Giants ML (-170) - Over/Under (7.5)

Pick: Giants ML (-170)

Both of these teams came into the 2024 Major League Baseball season with high expectations. However, through the first games of the season both of them have been a little bit underwhelming, and they will look to get things back on track and it starts with grabbing a victory here on Thursday night when they open up a series against each other. The Arizona Diamondbacks will meet with the San Francisco Giants for the first time this season as these two NL West teams clash to get out of the basement of the division heading into the back half of April. This will be game one of a four game weekend series in San Francisco and both teams. Will look to grab the upper hand here on Thursday night.

Arizona came into the season with expectations of competing for the National League West division title. However, they have gotten out of the gate slow losing 10 out of their first 19 games on the season, despite putting up solid performances throughout the early part of the year. That is something they will look to turn around and it starts with grabbing a victory here on Thursday night on the road in San Francisco and they look to grab a series opening victory against the Giants. Arizona is coming off of a rather disappointing series lost to the Chicago Cubs where they dropped two out of three games in a series where the first two games went into extra innings.

Now they will head out on the road to the Bay Area and look to change their luck after a rough home stand throughout the early part of April. In six games away from home this season Arizona has been rather lackluster losing four out of the six but three of them came against one of the best teams in the league in the ATL against the Braves. For the second time this season, they will face an NL West opponent on the road after taking two out of three from Colorado at Coors Field earlier this year. Ryne Nelson takes the mound for the Diamondbacks in game one, and he comes into this game sporting a 1-2 record with an Earned Run Average of 5.27.

The San Francisco Giants are another National League West division team that came into the season with high expectations, but they’ve also found themselves with lackluster results throughout the early part of the year. San Francisco comes into this game with 11 losses through their first 19 games of the season. They will look to get things turned around and pick up victory number nine here on Thursday night at home against Arizona. They have been averaging at home through their first home games of the season winning three and losing three heading into the opening game of this four game weekend series.

Logan Webb will get the baseball for San Francisco in this game, and he comes into this one with a record of 1-1 and a 3.80 Earned Run Average. He is putting up respectable numbers throughout his first few appearances of the season and he will look to further lower his ERA while picking up his second victory of the season here in this one. San Francisco has returned from their Florida road trip and they are coming off of a series where they took two out of three games from the Miami Marlins. They will look to keep that momentum rolling as they return home for this divisional series against Arizona.

Betting trends to consider in this matchup:

- Arizona is 2-4 on the road

- The Giants are 2-1 at home against the NL West

- Arizona is 0-3 as a road underdog

I looked for this to be a back-and-forth game on Thursday night between Arizona and San Francisco. I look for the Arizona lineup to keep them in this game throughout the early part of the contest, but in the end, I don’t look for them to pick up the victory against the Giants on the road. As I look for Logan Webb to get the job done on the mound and for the Giants to do enough at home to pull out the series opening victory against the Diamondbacks.
